New Brunswick, NJ, April 2, 2013 — The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ), the New Jersey Life Sciences Vendors Alliance (NJLSVA) and We Work For Health-New Jersey (WWFH-NJ) this morning hosted U.S. Representative Rob Andrews (D-1st) at a life sciences vendors breakfast roundtable in Cherry Hill, NJ.

HINJ President and Chief Executive Officer Dean J. Paranicas said, “Concurrent with the growth of life sciences in New Jersey, the most comprehensive and specialized network of industry vendors in the world has evolved here that provides critical support to our industry.”  “Certainly, the Garden State’s life sciences cluster could not grow and prosper without the support that all of you provide,” he added.

According to WWFH-NJ, in 2011, biopharmaceutical and medical technology companies purchased more than $8 billion in goods and services through more than 15,000 relationships with New Jersey businesses.

In introducing Congressman Andrews, Paranicas told attendees that the “relationship between pharmaceutical and medical technology companies around the state and your own companies makes it important that we all understand that changes in Washington and Trenton can have a profound effect on our collective ability to continue to grow, sustain jobs and drive New Jersey’s economy as we discover new medicines and technologies, thereby creating more economic opportunities for all of us.”

Since being elected to Congress in 1990, Congressman Andrews has earned a reputation as a thoughtful, creative and influential policymaker.  Paranicas said, “Mr. Andrews remains a leading voice in Washington on health care, education and workforce issues — and we are grateful to him for suggesting this morning’s forum.”
