New Brunswick, June 23, 2020 ― The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) has announced the hiring of Allison Freeman as its new Director of Communications, effective June 16, 2020.
Mrs. Freeman was a long-time reporter for The Star-Ledger, covering general assignment news, Essex County news, government, health, education, the arts, and entertainment. She has worked in communications for several New Jersey school districts and managed a community school, overseeing programming and a staff of more than 100 people. In addition, Mrs. Freeman has led a wide range of communications, public relations, and marketing projects for many nonprofit and community organizations through her own firm.
“Allison’s strong journalism background, as well as her numerous communications leadership positions, and her broad knowledge of the New Jersey media landscape, make her very well-suited for this role,” said Dean J. Paranicas, HINJ’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are confident she can help HINJ strengthen our communications outreach and engage HINJ’s stakeholders in creative and impactful ways.”
Mrs. Freeman has received several awards for newsletters and websites from the New Jersey School Public Relations Association as well as awards for her writing including the New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education, the New Jersey Music Educators Association Distinguished Service Award and the New Jersey Press Association’s Robert B. Kelly Award, honorable mention. She has a Bachelor of Science in newspaper journalism from Syracuse University. “I am excited to join the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey and hope to use my skills and background to help HINJ and its member companies through communications, public relations and social media on behalf of New Jersey’s life sciences community,” Mrs. Freeman said.
