Health and Wellness Fair Aims for Greater Public Awareness of Health Care Issues

Medical and Lifestyle Experts Focus on Prevention and Treatment Event Features U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg

Bridgewater, NJ, November 12, 2010 — The HealthCare Institute New Jersey (HINJ) today hosted a Health and Wellness Fair at Bergen Community College in Paramus.  The event featured U.S Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, the Region II director from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and health experts from patient groups and area hospitals.  The health fair provided Bergen County residents free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glaucoma, glucose, and balance, as well as expert advice on these topics.

“We believe it is part of our core mission to reach out and help provide the public access to important information and health experts,” said Dean J. Paranicas, chair of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey’s steering committee.  “The free screenings available at this and our other health fairs empower citizens – especially those with limited access to health care – with vital information to improve their health and overall wellbeing.”

Participants were able to hear from national and local health experts on healthy lifestyle topics ranging from heart and vascular health to managing diabetes.  This is the 17th free health fair conducted by HINJ.

“Increasing access to preventive care is a critical way to reduce health care costs and create a healthier America,” said Senator Lautenberg.  “The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey is doing an excellent job providing valuable services to people across our state.  I am proud of the work Congress has done to make preventive services more accessible and I will continue to fight for quality, affordable health care for all New Jerseyans.”

The program included Jaime R. Torres, Region II director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
