New Brunswick, NJ, April 27, 2011 — The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) today announced a reorganization of its senior staff. Steve Issenman has been appointed Senior Vice President-Federal and External Affairs, and Haskell Berman has been appointed Senior Vice President-State Affairs. Both appointments are effective immediately.
“Steve and Haskell are key members of the HINJ team and outstanding representatives of the biopharmaceutical and medical technology industry,” said Dean J. Paranicas, HINJ′s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are grateful for their skilled advocacy and leadership in protecting patient access and New Jersey jobs, while working to advance our member companies′ ability to pursue medical innovation. Their new roles will align and leverage their established strengths so as to better equip HINJ to implement our strategic objectives.”
Issenman joined HINJ in January 2002 after serving in an array of federal and state government, campaign and political party positions. Since 2010, he has served as Senior Vice President.
Issenman previously served as the Senior Federal Legislative Liaison for the New Jersey Department of Human Services, as Deputy Campaign Manager for Governor Donald DiFrancesco, as Political Director to Congressman Bob Franks during his 2000 U. S. Senate campaign, and as North Jersey Field Director in Governor Christine Todd Whitman′s Office of Inter-Governmental Affairs (IGA). Issenman also served Congressmen Matt Rinaldo and Bob Franks in their Congressional offices in both Washington, D.C. and New Jersey.
Berman has nearly 25 years of experience in New Jersey government and public affairs. For the past seven years he has served as Chief of Staff at HINJ.
Berman served 11 years in the New Jersey General Assembly Republican Office as Director of Policy & Planning; Director of Intergovernmental Relations and Deputy Executive Director. He managed Congressman Dean Gallo′s 1990 reelection campaign and served as Vice President of Capitol Public Affairs from 1998-2000. Berman began his career as Chief of Staff to then-Assemblyman Bob Franks. Berman has a B.A. in political science and communications from Monmouth University.
