Merck Chairman Raymond Gilmartin to Serve as Chairman of HealthCare Institute of New Jersey

New Brunswick, NJ, July 18, 2000 — Raymond V. Gilmartin, Chairman, President and CEO of Merck & Co., Inc., has been named Chairman of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey effective on July 1, 2000.  Mr. Gilmartin will serve a two-year term as chairman of the Institute, an association for the research-based pharmaceutical and medical technology industry in New Jersey. New Brunswick, NJ, January 26, 2000 — Each New Jersey job in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry in 1998 supported one-and-a-half additional jobs in the state. According to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers survey on the economic impact of pharmaceutical and medical technology companies in New Jersey, the industry is responsible for more than 140,000 jobs in the state, with a total overall economic impact of $10.3 billion.
